Has translated eighteen books of Japanese modern and contemporary Japanese poets’ tanka collections and anthologies
Awarded the Donald Keene Prize for Translation of Japanese Literature, by Columbia University, New York.
Also published six collections of her own tanka.
Saeko Ogi
Was born in Tokyo. Graduated from Tokyo Woman’s Christian University.
Came to Australia and devoted herself to Japanese language teaching for twenty-five years.
Saeko resides in Canberra. She has been a member of the Araragi-ha Tanka Society, in Tsu, Japan since 2003.
Has published two collections of responsive tanka with Amelia Fielden: ‘Weaver Birds’ and ‘Words Flower.’
Has co-translated seven Tanka books into Japanese.
Saeko founded CJC (Canberra Japan Club) Bluebells Tanka Group in 2010 and facilitates the group.
